Sexting Conference Educates Community on the Serious Consequences of SextingToday's technologies, including cell phones and the Internet, enable explicit images and text to be very easily and widely broadcasted. Once sent, there's not control over where those images might go next. It’s called sexting, it's happening today -- and it’s scary. On the morning of October 27th, The Center and AT&T sponsored "Sexting -- Not for Your Eyes Only."
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal kicked off the morning by addressing the legal ramifications of sexting. Later, Chris Hansen, Correspondent for “Dateline NBC” spoke of what he has seen in the online world, as both a journalist and a dad. He noted, 'it takes a village to monitor Internet use." He even took a moment to pose with the team of The Center!
A panel of experts discussed consumer protection issues. Speakers include: Debra Berlyn, President of Consumer Policy Solutions, Larry Magid, Co-director of ConnectSafely.org, Larry Rosenberg, PhD, Clinical Director, Child Guidance Center, and Marsali Hancock, President, iKeepSafe.
Another panel spoke to “The Consequences.” Featured speakers incuded: Dr. Joshua P. Starr, Superintendent, Stamford Public Schools, Richard J. Colangelo, Jr., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney, and Nancy Gifford, consultant, Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI).
